Sound Hunt

Find three things in the house that start with the same sound.

mmm sss b-b-b

No book needed for this one, the whole house is the game. Three minutes, zero prep, and a lot of running.

How to play

  1. 1

Pick a sound with easy wins nearby: sss (sock, spoon, soap) or b-b-b (ball, book, banana).

  2. 2

Send them off: “Find me three things that start with sss!”

  3. 3

Walk behind them. Let them lead. Let them be wrong.

  4. 4

Count the pile out loud together as it grows.

What this is building

Thinking up words, not just spotting them.

Here, your child has to do more than choose from what is already in front of them. They think of possible words, look around the room, and test each beginning sound. The running is what keeps it fun, and fun is what buys you repetition. Counting the pile together gives the hunt a finish line.
