The Sound Bag

Four toys, four different sounds, hidden in a bag. Guess before the reveal.

mmm sss b-b-b

Four familiar toys, each starting with a different sound, go into any bag, and then the guessing starts. Perfect for waiting rooms, restaurants, and long afternoons.

How to play

  1. 1

Pick four or five familiar toys that each start with a different sound. Ball, car, duck, sock.

  2. 2

Show them each one going into the bag, naming it as it goes. Then close the bag.

  3. 3

Reach in and announce: “I’m pulling out something that starts with b-b-b...” Stretch the sounds that can stretch, like mmm or sss. For short sounds, repeat them quickly: b-b-ball.

  4. 4

Let them guess before they see it. Then reveal it slowly, over a full three seconds. The slowness is the whole game.

What this is building

Memory and suspense, in one bag.

The hidden bag adds memory and suspense. Your child has to remember what went inside, listen to the clue sound, and guess which toy fits before it appears. Because the choices are familiar and limited, they can focus on the beginning sound without searching the whole room. Then comes the slow reveal, which is, honestly, the part they will want you to do again.
